Welcome. Allow me to introduce you to my two new books, which are about my life, the many challenges I have faced, hopefully the wisdom I have accrued through confronting these challenges, and the discoveries I have made as a result.

Irmgard’s Flute, A Memoir and The Mother’s Signature—A Journal of Dreams are very different in nature yet intimately connected in spirit. Irmgard’s Flute is a memoir centered on my experience as a World War II Air Force officer shot down over Nazi Germany and taken prisoner of war. The improbable love of Irmgard, a young German nurse at the prison hospital—as well as the very miracle of my survival—awakened my spirit and put me on the journey I continue to this day.

In The Mother’s Signature, I describe my discovery, gleaned through fifty years as a psychoanalyst, of how our unconscious through our dreams reveals the process by which we become who we are. During these years I was amazed to find the spiritual emerging with increasing importance in my patients’ dreams as they became more evolved individuals.

These two very different books, then, represent two halves of my life, and the single journey of one soul.
